Job Summary

Provides cleaning; refuse/linen pick up, linen par levels and mail services to all areas of the Health Center and specific satellite buildings according to established policies and procedures in order to provide sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Qualifications - Minimum


High school diploma or GED required.


The ability to follow written and oral instructions, read and understand signs, warning notices and work instructions and to complete necessary work forms and other paperwork.

Minimum of 1 year related experience.

Self-motivated and high personal individual in order to interact with patients and family members.


Basic level skills:

Follows detailed written and oral instructions.

Completes specific routine tasks.

Requires basic reading, writing or simple arithmetic skills.

May operate basic equipment/machinery.


Contributes to multiple work areas.

Cleans and services specific areas according to established policies and procedures:

Reviews proper policies/procedures for area or service responsibility assigned.

Follows the 10-step cleaning process when cleaning patient rooms

Assembles proper tools, equipment and materials for specific tasks. Utilizes prescribed safety equipment.

Safely and properly completes service assignment, adhering to maintenance and service programs and policies established for specific procedures.

Safely and properly operates the following industrial; commercial and domestic machinery/equipment in completing specific assignments:

RMI postage meter

Digital mail scale

6100 mail processor


Recycling equipment

Hazardous waste material

Automatic floor keepers

Divided/concentrated weight machines

Wet/dry vacuums

Carpet extractors

Mop carts/associated tools

Vacuum cleaners

Furniture moving equipment

Van type vehicles

Fans, chemical pumps and sprayers

Ladders and associated climbing devices

Inside tractor

Telephone/fax equipment

Clean and maintains equipment and storage rooms:

Properly cleans and stores equipment after using

Lubricates and adjusts equipment as instructed

Reports broken and unsafe equipment to supervisor

Patient Transportation

During times of need as dictated by departmental management Utility Worker (UW) will be expected to perform Transport tasks

Performs transportation of patients to and from inpatient/outpatient areas to any treatment area for the purpose of patient satisfaction and the alleviation of bottlenecks in ED and delays related to throughput. Areas include but are limited to the following areas: Radiology, Endo, Echo, Stress Lab, Vasc Lab, Pulm Fct, Nuc Med, Nuc Card, MRI, Occ Ther, and Ortho-Neuro.

The decision for Utility Worker to Transport will be made in conjunction with EVS management and Patient Flow Coordinators.

EVS personnel will be trained on Patient Transport basics before being asked to perform these types of tasks. Our goal would be to give the easier, less complicated task to the UW during times of need e.g. discharges, transfers, and 'go-backs’.

Participates in departmental Q.A. Program:

Completes departmental Q.A. reporting form at frequency intervals as instructed

Properly completes Q.A. reporting form utilizing established criteria

Participates in discussion of reports at monthly departmental meetings

Proactive in assuring that deficiencies are corrected

Maintains a neat, clean personal appearance.

Conforms to HMHP uniform standards

Properly displays identification badge

Maintains uniforms in good repair and clean condition

Utilizes safety or protective wear where indicated or instructed

Exercises good personal hygiene


Hours per pay period: 0

Hours: 3:00pm to 11:30pm

Pier Diem as needed.

Available weekends & holidays.
