Job Summary

Coordinates the successful delivery of quality patient care for the inpatient clinical unit. Confers with other departments on patient outcomes and participates in performance improvement of the program. Responsible for coordination of daily patient care and staff  activities of the unit. Serves as clinical expert who promotes adherence to evidence based practice.

Coordinates unit daily activities, directs nursing care for patients for designated shift &/or other shift as assigned based on established clinical nursing practice standards, code of professional ethics & regulatory compliance.

Demonstrates and teaches competent use of medical equipment, procedures, patient education and staff education appropriate to the needs , skill mix and specialized care in the unit.

Analyzes data of patient outcomes of the intensive care unit and confers with other departments for process improvement with the unit. Communicates and colloborates with the interdisciplinary and interprofessional team.

Responsible for daily productivity of the unit. Assits with completion of clinical improvement processes.Front line person for patient concerns and service recovery. Rounds with staff and on patients daily.Reviews relevant literature and implements evidence based practice.

Evaluates staff competence initially and ongoing for the unit . Identifies preceptors and assists with the development and training for the unit staff.

Provides direct patient care and and assists in orientation of staff at the bedside. Organization and time management under pressure and ability to multitask.

Provides mentoring, coaching, counseling and corrective action (Step 3 & 4 must be completed with the manager/designee). Participates in hiring of staff and completes evaluations of direct reports.

Assists in development of new programs and outreach services for the unit.

REQUIRED: Current RN license in state of Ohio. BLS.

PREFERRED: ACLS (completion within 6 months of hire required).

Required Minimum Education: 2yr / Associates Degree

Preferred Education: 4yr / Bachelors Degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years recent experience in Medical-Surgical Unit . One year charge nurse/team leader experience preferred.

BSN preferred. Matriculation in BSN with completion within five years.

Specifically, you’ll need:

  • Nursing degree (Associate required, Bachelor’s ideal)
  • Current Ohio RN license
  • 1–2 years of nursing experience, preferred
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required, with ACLS and PALS, a plus
  • Committee work or shared leadership experience, a plus
  • Experience presenting at conferences, a plus
