Job Summary

 BASIC PURPOSE:The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifying and determining the priority of patient’s/Resident’s/client’s problems/needs, and evaluating the process and outcome of nursing care. The RN coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members. The RN possesses good interpersonal and teamwork skills and practices the Core Values of the Mercy Health Care System.

 SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

ASSESSMENT

In collaboration with the patient/resident/client and health team members, conducts initial and ongoing assessment, designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s/resident’s/client’s individual needs.

  1. In an accurate and timely manner, shall:
  2. conduct and document a nursing assessment of the health status of the
  3. collect objective and subjective data
  4.  modify the data collected as the patient’s/resident’s/client’s status changes
  5. report assessment data as appropriate to other members of the health care team

ANALYSIS

  1. Accurately and in a timely manner, analyzes the assessment data and establishes or modifies a nursing diagnosis to be used as a basis for nursing interventions

PLANNING

  1. Accurately and in a timely manner, develops maintains or modifies the nursing  component of the plan of care and communicates the nursing component of the plan of care to appropriate members of the health care team.

IMPLEMENTATION

  1. Accurately and in a timely manner, implements the nursing plan of care, which may include:
  2. executing the current regiment prescribed
  3. giving direct nursing care
  4. assisting with the care of the patient/resident/client
  5. collaborating with other nurses and members of the health care team
  6. delegating delegable nursing duties
  7. providing patients/residents/clients with a safe and supportive environment by demonstrating an understanding of:
  8. patient/resident/client rights
  9. confidentiality
  10. abuse and appropriate interventions
  11. Advance Directives
  12. assisting patients/residents/clients/significant others to obtain information and skills relevant to their health needs

 EVALUATION

  1. Evaluates the patient’s/resident’s/client’s response to nursing interventions
  2. Documents and communicates the patient’s/resident’s/client’s response to nursing interventions to appropriate members of the healthcare team
  3. Reassess the patient’s/resident’s/client’s health status, revises the nursing diagnosis and makes changes in the nursing interventions as appropriate
  4. Involves, as appropriate, the patient/resident/client, family, significant others or other members of the health care team in the evaluation

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

  1. Administers medications in a safe manner which is consistent with the organizations policies and procedures and the State of Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  1. Maintains competence and licensure by participating in ongoing professional education activities
  2. Attends and participates in department/unit meetings per unit policy
  3. Actively participates in performance improvement.
  4. Maintains CPR proficiency

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED AND/OR TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of state approved school of nursing.
  • Current RN licensure to practice nursing issued by the State of Ohio
  • Additional training in area of specialization required and demonstrated by unit-based competency
  • 1–2 years of nursing experience, preferred
  • CPR certification, with ACLS and PALS, a plus
  • Committee work or shared leadership experience, a plus

Shift and Job Schedule

Hours: 24 per/week

Schedule: Nights
