Job Summary

The Pre-Service Specialist is responsible for completing pre-registration and financial clearance functions prior to the patient’s arrival for service.  Validates accurate patient demographic and insurance information.  Obtains pre-certification/authorization as required.  Schedules the patient and enters all necessary information into the practice management system.  Calculates and informs the patient of their approximate liability and collects patient liabilities.  Identifies patients in need of financial assistance and refers the patient to a financial counselor.  Reschedules patient appointments as necessary. 

High school diploma or GED required. 

1-2 years experience in a physician practice required.  Experience in an area of pre-service (scheduling, pre-registration, financial clearance, or collections) required.  Multiple areas of experience preferred. 

Effectiveness in a fast-paced environment and problem-solving skills required. 

Ability to follow established parameters and make decisions based on those parameters required. 

Ability to speak effectively and present a pleasant, profession demeanor/image during telephone conversations or in person. 

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information according to policy. 

Knowledge of medical terminology required.  Knowledge of insurance, healthcare terms and revenue cycle processes, including insurance regulations preferred. 

Ability to set and meet deadlines, prioritize work and the ability to work independently. 

Ability to work with technology as necessary, including, telephone systems, Epic practice management system, insurance verification/eligibility tools, patient liability estimation tools and scanning technology. 

Ability to type 45 words per minute. 


Full-time, 40 hours per week, days / afternoons, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
