Job Description

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and therapeutic implementation of Outpatient programs to treat illnesses and injuries which impede independent functioning of work, self care and play activities. Clinical responsibilities are outlined in the AOTA scope of practice.

Functions within the designated Scope of Practice for evaluation, treatment and documentation, and maintains appropriate ethical conduct.


Assesses all inpatients for functional level of performance within 24 hours of admission.
 

Provides evaluation and treatment across the continum of care in Behavioral Services.


Performs specific testing in evaluation and treatment process apropriate for diagnosis and functional level.


Attends required meetings and in-services and adheres to hospital and departmental policies, procedures and Mercy Core Values.


Demonstrates behaviors which foster a positive work environment.
 

Assists in orienting and supervising new employees, students, volunteers, therapy care partners and certified occupational therapy assistants.
 

Documents patient care according to department and hospital guidelines.
Maintains productivity standards as identified per program.


Accepts direction to assist in all work areas across the continuum of care as census requires.


Participates in PI activities to maintain efficiency of program.


Able to understand and react effectively to unique needs of patients in age group(s) served.


Maintains CEU and other licensure requirements and provides in-services to staff as appropriate.


Demonstrate the ability to perform behavioral modification for appropriate return into community. This work may be performed both individually and in groups.


Able to effectively perform transfers of orthopedic and neurologic patients.


Addresses appropriate activities of daily living during evaluation and treatment, and able to vend appropriate equipment to enable a higher level of independence for patients.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Information

Bachelors degree or entry -Masters from an Accredited School.

Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Ohio

CPR certification required
