Job Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing medical care and transportation of emergency and non-emergency patients between medical facilities in Lima and the surrounding areas at the EMT-B level of care.

Specific Duties

Respond as needed for emergency and non-emergency medical transportation requests for service.

Assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and appropriate protocol.

Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, oxygen and suction devices, CPR, and other procedures/medications as required to provide basic life support medical care, within the scope of care.

Provide timely and accurate telephone and radio communications between their unit, other agencies, the communications center, medical control, and receiving facilities in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Operate an ambulance or other motor vehicle in an emergency or non-emergency mode in a safe and efficient manner.

Collect information for medical and operational needs to maintain accurate reports and records.

Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.

Utilization of maps, GPS, and other geographic tools to navigate throughout coverage area.

Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements, according to level of certification.

Keep current on certifications and continuing education.

Act as team leader and take responsibility for triage and/or scene management as needed.

Lift and move patients as required to provide safe and optimum care.

Monitor and maintain the general condition of assigned vehicle and equipment.

Maintains confidentiality and actively supports patient/family rights.

Serves as a patient advocate.

Qualifications - Minimum

Minimum of 4+ years of driving experience.
OH State Emergency Medical Technician, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC), CPR, IS-100.b, IS-700.a, Valid State Driver's License
