Job Summary

Attractively portions and serves food and beverage items for patients, cafe customers, and catering, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service so as to exceed patient/customer expectations for food service. Performs all ware washing tasks and cleans pots, pans, and utensils. Must practice food safety and sanitation techniques in order to maintain a safe food environment at all times. Plans daily activities (and/or assists co-workers, as needed) to ensure appropriate and timely service and clean-up of meals.

Assists with preparation of foods as appropriate for assigned position.

Efficiently assembles patients' trays/late trays according to established procedure; efficiently serves cafeteria customers; preps, sets up, and/or serves catered events; accurately operates cash register.

Transports patient tray carts and delivers the meal to the patient; retrieves dirty tray carts following meal service; retrieves catering carts and cleans-up catered functions.

Performs ware washing functions according to established procedure; cleans and sanitizes dirty pots, pans, and utensils.

Stocks/restocks kitchen and/or cafeteria with needed equipment/supplies; completes requisition sheets as needed.

Fills floor stock orders for patient units.

Prepares and delivers patients' nourishments/snacks and tube feedings.

Covers, labels, and dates all opened, prepped, or leftover food items placed in storage.

Keeps work area clean, sanitized, and orderly throughout the day; completes duties on cleaning schedule; adheres to HACCP Guidelines; practices good sanitation techniques.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Understands the processes on the Trayline to make sure that the food gets to the patient on time.

Has knowledge of the food that is being served and the proper position of any product.

Takes initiative to see what needs to be done and takes action to see that it is accomplished.

Initiates and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment; notifies Supervisor of any equipment problems.

Works with educational facilities to provide learning opportunities for Dietetic Students.

Demonstrates appropriate and cost effective use of department resources, supplies, equipment, and time.

Demonstrates work schedule flexibility.

Maintains a courteous, cooperative attitude towards co-workers, management, patients, visitors, physicians; assists them whenever possible.

Attends and exhibits the ABC's Excel attitude within the organization.

Attends mandatory Medical Center meetings, department meetings and in-services, and other programs, as appropriate.

Practices safety and security as defined in the Medical Center and department policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Will also be responsible for Cafe work including cash register and cash handling.

Qualifications - Minimum


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous food service experienced preferred; for cash register positions, employee must be able to perform basic cash handling functions.


Hours per pay period: 72

Hours: 11:00am to 7:30pm

Rotating weekends and holidays.
